It offers cozy, indoor “lodging.” The accommodations are in co-ed bunkrooms with separate bathrooms with flush toilets. The bunkhouses are not heated, have no lighting, and electrical outlets are not available.The Lafayette campground parking lot is directly accessible by I-93 north and south. To start the hike, walk through the campground and follow the signs that direct to the Lonesome Lake Hut. The trailhead begins on your right side a few hundred feet into the campground. The Lonesome Lake Trail begins at Lafayette Campground and immediately begins ascending gradually for the next mile. The trail levels out, and it is an easy walk through the woods to Lonesome Lake. If you want to make the loop around the lake, you can continue right at the trail junction and end at the Lonesome Lake Hut.This is one of my favorite short hikes in the area. Lonesome Lake is nestled in the mountains at almost 3000 feet. The lake itself contains brook trout, so it is a good fishing destination during open season for trout ponds. There is also an AMC hut on the pond if you are looking to do an overnight.

Lonesome Lake is gorgeous with mountains in the distance. You need to hike to the hut where there is a place to eat and swim. The hut is across the lake from where the main trail ends - so hike around the whole lake. The hike around the lake is on flat boards that keep you out of the ground water - but is flat and very nice.
